2013 MetroPCS Dallas Marathon Canceled

2013 MetroPCS Dallas Marathon Canceled

Fortunately the hard work always gives a sense of accomplishment, even when the goal is not achieve.

"Safety of our participants, as well as our volunteers and spectators, is our primary concern on MetroPCS Dallas Marathon race weekend.
We met this morning with officials from the City of Dallas, Dallas Police Department and the Office of Special Events to assess the situation. Due to current weather conditions, and forecasted conditions for Saturday and Sunday, as of today at 12:40 p.m., the decision has been collaboratively made to cancel the 2013 MetroPCS Dallas Marathon.
We regret that the race will not go on as planned, but are confident this decision is in the best interest of our runners, volunteers, spectators and the general public.
Additionally, the MetroPCS Dallas Marathon Health & Fitness Expo for Friday and Saturday has been canceled."

Happy thanksgiving

Happy thanksgiving

This week I did not slow down. I ran 6 miles on Monday, 8 on Tuesday, 6 on Wednesday and 10 on Saturday… Well… the turkey and the cherry pies probably added a couple of seconds on my time. This thanksgiving I took the time to thank for my family, friends and dreams.

Thank you for the 21 beautiful people who opened their heart and sponsor a mile in my race. Together we are helping to re-build lives and give hope.
THANK YOU!

21 Miles... Last long run

21 Miles... Last Long run

Today was our last long run. We run with Lily 21 miles.  The run-runner bird found competition now. (LOL) Today we trained runnining up and down the hills, we practiced the pose for the finish line and we danced MC Hammer. I think we are ready to run the Dallas Metro PCS Marathon in 4:15.

I run... because it has helped me to get closer to GOD!!!

"We run, not because we think it is doing us good, but because we enjoy it and cannot help ourselves...The more restricted our society and work become, the more necessary it will be to find some outlet for this craving for freedom. No one can say, 'You must not run faster than this, or jump higher than that.' The human spirit is indomitable."
Sir Roger Bannister, first runner to run a sub-4 minute mile

These are some of my sponsors

Through this journey I have found support everywhere friends, coworkers and family members. I feel blessed to have such a warm and nice people around me.

On Saturday Lili and I ran 20 miles. We ran, we prayed we talked, we admired the view, we found new routes, we fought the pain, we taught each other, we planed our race and our day.. WE TRAINED.

Metro PCS Marathon... Here we're go!

"It's very hard in the beginning to understand that the whole idea is not to beat the other runners. Eventually you learn that the competition is against the little voice inside you that wants you to quit."

Week 9: 50 miles in total

Week 9: 50 miles in total

I have contacted already 9 people who want to help in my adventure... stay tuned... I will tell you who they are!

11 miles: Long run
"It's important to know that at the end of the day it's not the medals you remember. What you remember is the process -- what you learn about yourself by challenging yourself, the experiences you share with other people, the honesty the training demands -- those are things nobody can take away from you whether you finish twelfth or you're an Olympic Champion".

Number, Numbers and more numbers

Number, Numbers and more numbers

5K Monday
I just cannot believe how good I felt on Saturday during my 18 miles. I felt like I was flying… I think the training is paying off. I hope I feel this way on December 8th

I have always been a stats person. I like to know my performance in numbers (the first thing I look at after my runs is the time by miles, the average speed and any other statistical information I can get from my watch. I remember when I played basketball I always look forward to see the number of points, assistance, free throws, three point shots… I made in the game. Numbers are just something that I understand very well. Now I want to use this to learn more about domestic violence…

Do you know?

  • One in every four women will experience domestic violence in her lifetime.
  • An estimated 1.3 million women are victims of physical assault by an intimate partner each year.
  • 85% of domestic violence victims are women.
  • Historically, females have been most often victimized by someone they knew.
  • Females who are 20 - 24 years of age are at the greatest risk of nonfatal intimate partner violence.
  • Most cases of domestic violence are never reported to the police.

Week 8: Long run 18 miles

Week 8: Long run 18 miles

As a mention before the long runs are the most difficult part of the training... They are long!!! The weather was very nice and even thought I chose to run through some hills, I was able to run the 18 miles without stooping.I feel great... tired but motivated.

“I run because long after my footprints fade away, maybe I will have inspired a few to reject the easy path, hit the trails, put one foot in front of the other, and come to the same conclusion I did: I run because it always takes me where I want to go.” ( Dean Karnazes)

Getting ready for this week's long run

Getting ready for this week's long run

I had a good run last night. Even thought it was super late and I had to do it at the gym, it was good. Lili was there YEAHHH!!! but she got 2 miles ahead, so we did not run together.

I have been thinking all week about the run for today... 18 miles. OMG. Long runs are always hard, but they are very important in the preparation. I will have about 3 hours to think, sing, pray, prepare, listen, pray... well whatever I can do for 3 hours. Lili I will miss you today.

I have 8 sponsors now and I am very excited. I will be visiting some friends this weekend, I know I will get some more. Working hard to make "new Beginnings" happen.

Latest News!!!!!

We are a team!!!

Lili, her husband Fernando
 and I Metro PCS 2012
I am very excited because my very good friend Liliana Carrerero, who I have been training with for over 6 weeks, has decided to be part of this adventure. Even thought the goal now is double, I am sure we will be able to do it.

Last year we ran the PCS marathon in almost exactly the same time 4 hours, 36 minutes and 10 seconds (9 seconds for Lili).

Last Saturday we ran 16 miles in 2 hours, 32 minutes and 3 seconds without stopping . Also, last Tuesday we ran 12 miles in 1 hour, 54 minutes and 41 seconds. We have motivated and helped each other every run. I think it is because we have hidden wings on our new shoes... 8)

We have a month. Open your hearts and help us to reach our goals to contribute to many "New Beginnings".

Week 8: 6 miles

Week 8: 6 miles
Today was the first day I ran after I shared my idea of helping the New Beginning Center. While I was running I kept thinking how great it feels to transform a personal goal into hope to others. I am a little nervous about it, because I want to make it on 4 hours and 15; however it is my motivation to work harder and get ready

Today... Good pace... I felt great!

26.2 miles for a "New Beginning"

Hello,

WhiteRock Marathon Dec 4, 2011
My name is Diana Montgomery and I like to think that I am a runner. I did not start running until three years ago when I ran my first Marathon in Dallas, Texas (White Rock Marathon). It was the experience of my life. After running in terrible weather and finishing in 4 hours 44 minutes and 31 seconds, my life changed. I feel like I can do anything and I have used this accomplishment as a motivator for any situation in my life!

This year I will be running my third marathon and I want to do something different. I want to take my personal accomplishment to another level. I want it to be meaningful for more people, so I have come up with a great idea.

Unfortunately, the numbers of domestic violence victims  is rising at a very fast rate, but places like The New Beginning Center has set a goal to help these women and children to have a “ new beginning” without violence and full of hope. I want to help with these women and children with their “New Beginning”.

“The mission of New Beginning Center is to foster an environment of safety, support and respect for families affected by domestic violence. We do so through crisis intervention, counseling, shelter, education, advocacy, and diverse community partnerships. The vision of New Beginning Center is to promote social change that will lead to the elimination of domestic violence” (http://www.newbeginningcenter.org/mission-vision/).

WhiteRock Marathon Dec 9, 2012
I have been training for the last 6 weeks to run The Metro PCS Marathon and I am looking for 26 people or companies who would like to sponsor one mile of my race with at least $26.20.  My goal is to raise at least $681.20 for The New Beginning Center, but this is not all. If I finish the race in less than 4 hours and 15 minutes, (which will be a new personal record) all my sponsors will agree to double their contribution so the overall will be at least $1,362.20.

I want to use this blog to record my training experiences, and to look for my sponsors. I hope you are one of them!!!
